As the customer service representative here at CCD, my role has many different faces: tech support, software trainer, receptionist, record keeper, office organizer, barista, Latin dance instructor—the list goes on! But, I’m not alone. It appears that plenty of people are wearing hats they never expected to wear, thanks to COVID-19.
Last week, I seemed to fall into the “COVID chaos” by overfilling my plate. Somehow, in the midst of trying to get everything done, I found myself just running around in circles and hadn’t really accomplished a thing. Sound familiar? Once I stopped and took a breather, I was able to reevaluate my priorities and tackle them like a champ! This wasn’t the first time I’ve been overwhelmed, nor will it be the last, but these are 3 mantras I try to live by each day:
Be flexible. As much as one tries to predict the future, you simply can’t plan for everything.
Be unshakable. Rather than stressing, I’ve learned to love the journey I’m on and take things one day at a time.
Be considerate and forgiving. With myself, those around me, and in every decision I make. |
Sometimes it just takes coming back to center and realizing what’s really important to catch my second wave.
The CCD team likes to utilize Stephen Covey’s ‘big rock’ approach to time management from his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
To put it briefly, it’s no secret that many people find it difficult to fit priorities and goals into their lives. We feel the need to sacrifice one thing in order to gain another, and it often seems as if there simply isn’t enough time to accomplish everything. Covey suggests “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” Whether it be business initiatives, getting more exercise, time with friends and family, or even fitting in more “me” time to decompress, if we don’t prioritize the big rocks, we’ll always get caught up in the gravel that falls in between and never have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of our achievements.
So, every morning at 9:01, the CCD team meets to share each other’s 3 big rocks for the day. That way we always accomplish what’s most important each day, leading to a happier us and ultimately, a happier You!
